A college sports facility needed a complete lighting upgrade. The existing fittings were outdated, energy-hungry and failing to deliver the light levels required for student athletics and PE sessions.
Flare was commissioned to design and install a full LED replacement across the facility's main halls and sports courts.
The Installation
We installed 70 high bay LED lights, each suspended approximately 8 metres high using catenary wire. The catenary suspension system was chosen for its clean aesthetic, minimal structural impact and ability to position lights precisely where they're needed across large open spans.
Working at height in an active educational environment required careful planning. All work was coordinated around the college timetable to minimise disruption to students and staff.
Key Outcomes
- Significantly reduced utility bills — LED technology uses a fraction of the energy consumed by the previous fittings, delivering immediate savings to the college's operating budget.
- Measurable energy savings — The upgrade contributes directly to the college's sustainability targets and energy performance reporting.
- Carbon reduction — Lower energy consumption supports the institution's carbon reduction plans and environmental commitments.
- Enhanced safety and lighting quality — Uniform, high-output LED lighting improves visibility for student athletics, reducing the risk of injury and creating a better training environment.
LED upgrades deliver dual benefits: financial savings and sustainability benefits.
This project demonstrates what's achievable with modern commercial LED technology. Whether it's a sports facility, warehouse, workshop or manufacturing floor, high bay LED installations pay for themselves through reduced energy costs — often within two to three years.
